Using Snap Layouts and Virtual Desktops in Windows 11

Organize Your Workspace Like a Pro

Windows 11 introduces powerful multitasking features that help you stay organized. Two of the most useful are Snap Layouts and Virtual Desktops.

Snap Layouts

Snap Layouts let you arrange multiple windows on your screen in pre-defined layouts. This is perfect for multitasking — for example, having your email, a document, and a browser open side by side.

How to Use Snap Layouts:
  1. Hover your mouse over the Maximize button (the square icon in the top-right corner of any window)
  2. A menu will appear showing different layout options (2 windows, 3 windows, 4 windows)
  3. Click the layout you want, then click where you want the current window to go
  4. Choose which other open windows fill the remaining spaces

Virtual Desktops

Virtual Desktops allow you to create separate workspaces for different tasks. For example, you might have one desktop for work projects, another for email and Teams, and a third for personal tasks.

How to Use Virtual Desktops:
  1. Click the Task View button on the taskbar (or press Windows Key + Tab)
  2. Click New Desktop to create a new virtual desktop
  3. Drag open windows between desktops as needed
  4. Switch between desktops using Windows Key + Ctrl + Left/Right Arrow

Pro Tip: Use different wallpapers for each virtual desktop to easily identify which one you’re on.
