Creating Strong Passwords and Using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Protect Your Accounts with Strong Passwords and MFA

Strong passwords and multi-factor authentication are your first line of defense against unauthorized access to company systems.

Creating Strong Passwords

  • Use at least 12 characters (longer is better)
  • Include a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
  • Avoid common words, names, birthdays, or keyboard patterns (e.g., Password123, Qwerty)
  • Use a passphrase — a sequence of random words (e.g., “Purple-Elephant-Jumps-Over-Clouds!”)
  • Do not reuse passwords across multiple accounts

Using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password.

How to Set Up MFA:
  1. Go to Microsoft 365 Security Info
  2. Sign in with your company credentials
  3. Click Add sign-in method and choose Microsoft Authenticator app
  4. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone
  5. Scan the QR code displayed on screen
  6. Approve the test notification to complete setup

Using a Password Manager

Contact IT Support to get access to the company-recommended password manager. It will securely store and auto-fill your passwords.
