How to Manage Windows Updates on Your Company Laptop

Keeping Your System Up to Date

Windows Updates are essential for security and performance. They patch vulnerabilities, fix bugs, and add new features. Here’s how to manage them properly.

Automatic Updates

By default, Windows 11 downloads and installs updates automatically. You may be prompted to restart your computer to complete installation.

  • Recommended: Allow updates to install automatically
  • Restart Prompt: When you see “Restart required” — save your work and restart at your earliest convenience
  • Active Hours: Windows will not restart during your active hours (default: 8 AM – 5 PM)

Checking for Updates Manually

  1. Open Settings (Windows Key + I)
  2. Go to Windows Update
  3. Click Check for updates
  4. If updates are available, click Download & install

Important Notes

  • Do not delay updates for more than 7 days — security patches are critical
  • Save your work before restarting for updates
  • If you encounter issues after an update, contact IT Support
  • Company laptops may have additional update policies managed by IT

Remember: Keeping Windows updated is a company security requirement. If you have questions, contact the IT Help Desk.
